Hiking Old Rag Mountain 2012

This last April, our Venturing and Varsity units got together to hike Old Rag Mountain, one of the most popular hikes in the region. I must admit it was one of the most amazing hikes I have done with these group and it was worth every effort.

The mountain is located about 2.5 hours from our home location. We hardly had any cell phone signal (with the exception of the top of the mountain).

It took about 3 hours to get to the top of the hill. We started really early in the morning (6:30am) and finished around 3pm. We stopped a few time trying to catch our breath since the hike upwards was difficult.
We also took the opportunity to enjoy the great view of the Shenandoah National Park. Each stop was simply a wonderful opportunity to see nature.

We really appreciate the great "scouters" (adult leaders) that came along with us. They tried to keep up with the boys. Most of them were very successful at doing just that :)
Each "scouter" worked out very hard (I'm told we burned over 3000 calories each). This was an amazing effort (at least for some of us).
After two hours into the hike, we started to see more rocks that required more physical work on our side. We reached sections where he had to climb.
We also took the opportunity to take funny pictures as there were many rocks (of all sizes) everywhere. It was really great to see everyone having so much fun.

This hike was very rewarding as the view from the top made us feel that we really accomplished something after a long day of hard physical work.
